This is a non-competitive event will be part of the 2019 Fall Festival and will give an opportunity for students to perform songs from musical theater (Broadway), pop (including Disney and movie themes), and Jazz genres. The event is presented in recital format with adjudication for comments. The event is open to solos and ensembles of all levels and instruments including voice.

FESTIVAL RULES AND GUIDELINES

  1. This Festival is open to all disciplines (including Voice), and is in recital format.
  2. Students must dress in appropriate recital attire and stay for the entire recital in which they perform.
  3. A limit of 10 students per teacher.(If you wish to add more students, please contact chairs within 2 days after the deadline to see if space is available.)
  4. Time limits are as follows:
    1. Beginner: 2 min
    2. Intermediate: 4 min
    3. Advanced: 6 min
  5. Each student can play one piece that was written by a composer/artist who was (or is) living between the years 1950 through 2016. Examples of artists include D. Kabalevsky, George Gershwin, John Williams, The Piano Guys, Joe Hisaishi, Jim Brickman, George Winston, music from Broadway productions, Disney music, Pop artists, etc.
  6. Students may play an arrangement of a piece, or even play a piece they have written or arranged.
  7. If a student sings a song, the lyrics must be appropriate; no profanity or inappropriate lyrics will be allowed.
  8. Vocalists may bring an accompanist, use a CD, or bring their IPad with the accompaniment purchased through ITunes. There will be an adapter available to plug the IPad into a speaker. If using a karaoke version, please do not have any backup singers in the music. We want to hear the student’s voice only. Choose a karaoke version that has no backup singers.
  9. All music must be memorized.
  10. Please bring the original music for the evaluator to view. NO PHOTOCOPIES FROM PUBLISHED MUSIC BOOKS ARE ALLOWED. If you buy your music from the Internet, you must provide proof of your purchase in print and place your music with the proof of purchase together in a binder.
  11. In addition to a written evaluation, each student will receive a Popular Festival participation medallion.
  12. Teachers with students in the Festival may be asked to help at the Popular Festival.
  13. Teachers are required to obtain and keep on file media consent and release forms for their students.  The submission of this consent and release signifies that SDNC CAPMT has permission to, without compensation, record audio, video, and/or still images of participants in this event, including students and teachers, and use the recordings in publications, web pages, or other promotional materials representing SDNC CAPMT.  The same form may be used for the entire year (July 1 to June 30 of the following year).
